OREANDA-NEWS. Svyaznoy Bank has improved the fault-tolerance of applications in its private cloud and enabled data protection in the case of information system failure. This was possible thanks to a new storage system-an important component of Svyaznoy Bank's private cloud. The project was completed by CROC, which is now responsible for the operation of the solution's key components, with the technical support agreement including 24x7 system support.

"In 2013 we offered a new remote banking service system and implemented in-house processing to simplify payment operations. This led to a dramatic increase in the infrastructure work load. After analyzing the situation, we have decided that it is economically and strategically better to completely migrate to a private cloud. Once the project was completed, we could guarantee high service quality to customers and allocate required capacities to satisfy business needs in the medium term without buying additional equipment," said Alexander Panin, Director of the IT Department, Svyaznoy Bank.

"Our specialists have implemented the system in Svyaznoy Bank's data centers in Moscow. The system allows for the flexible re-allocation of work load within the private cloud. In the case of entire data center failure or electricity outages, applications will continue running from the backup data center," added Dmitry Yakovlev, Corporate Accounts Director, CROC.

The solution consists of two fault-tolerant clusters which include EMC Symmetrix VMAX hi-end storage equipment, EMC VPLEX storage virtualizers, and Brocade switches. In addition, EMC VPLEX Metro is used to access data and transfer it from one cluster to another.

"Today we see higher demand for cloud technology in the banking sector with regard to private and hybrid clouds. EMC technology used in this solution is designed to provide guaranteed high performance and data security in the cloud. ЕМС operates in 86 countries around the world, and the trend toward the migration of financial organizations into the cloud is global. We think that this is very logical because cloud technology helps companies realize their business objectives via high-availability of data and applications and cost optimization," said Pavel Vlaskin, Corporate Clients Director, EMC.

"The success of the project depends largely on the accuracy of the solution selection process. Customers are eager to have a 'test drive' of the system they are interested in, which is free of charge, and before proceeding to the commercial implementation of EMC VPLEX, we arranged several demonstrations in our solution center. As a result, the bank's management now has a clear picture of how the storage system will really operate with regard to legacy infrastructure," says Alexander Lopukhov, CROC's Deputy Director General who supervised the project.
