OREANDA-NEWS. August 22, 2014. The cooperation agreement on Brazil's Belo Monte Hydropower UHV Transmission Project was signed by SGCC Chairman Liu Zhenya and Eletrobras CEO Costa Carvalho Neto at the Brazilian presidential palace. The cooperation agreement was signed under the witness of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, and it is a demonstration of the great importance attached to the project by the two governments. The cooperation agreement is also a new milestone in the cooperation between China and Brazil in the field of electric power.

On February 7th, 2014, a consortium made up of SGCC and Eletrobras won the bid for the first UHV transmission line in Brazil as well as in America--Brazil's Belo Monte Hydropower UHV DC Transmission Project, and it marks China's big breakthrough in the "Going Global" strategy for its UHV technologies. According to the cooperation agreement signed, China and Brazil will further share their experience on the construction, operation and management of UHV grids and have more in-depth communication and exchange. The two sides also pledge to provide comprehensive support in the construction and implementation of the Belo Monte Project, including technology, funds and personnel.

Eletrobras speaks highly of SGCC's contribution in promoting the cooperation between China and Brazil in the energy field and has expressed its wish to further strengthen the strategic cooperative partnership with SGCC. It's to Eletrobras' sincere hope that the Belo Monte Hydropower UHV Transmission Project could be successfully built up and put into operation under its joint effort with SGCC, which would bring much benefit to the Brazilian people. Eletrobras also expresses that it would deepen its cooperation with SGCC based on a principle of mutual benefit and would explore more new fields of cooperation.
