OREANDA-NEWS. August 25, 2014. This is provided by amendments to 2 Moldovan-American intergovernmental agreements dated July 22, 2011 and July 6, 2010, to be signed by Chisinau and Washington. Moldova’s government approved the entry to the talks on the signings of annexes to these agreements concerning various projects and programmes.

In particular, according to them, the USA’s assistance for boosting Moldova's economy will increase by USD 3.5 million, its total volume reaching USD 36.2 million. This free of charge assistance will be used to proceed with implementing programmes aimed at consolidating competitiveness of the private sector in Moldova, developing capacities of its small and medium -sized enterprises and creating new jobs.

By another amendment, the USA increases the funding for the Programme on consolidation of State Legal Institutions by USD 342,500, the total grant increasing to USD 7.8 million. This money will be drawn down to enhance efficiency, transparency and responsibility of the justice system of Moldova by consolidating institutional and operational abilities of the Supreme Council of Judiciary, the Judicial Administration Department and National Institute of Justice. Besides, the aid will be provided to the Government and non-governmental organizations of Moldova to push forward justice reforms and improve monitoring of this process. Special attention will be given to automation of judgment through introduction of a computer-aided system for keeping court records.

One Moldovan-American agreement more includes the provision on USA’s providing Moldova with the assistance of USD 11.91 million to support local authorities. The funds will be spent to improve municipal services, enhance their quality and increase their quantity, to make the municipal financial management and energy use more efficient.
