OREANDA-NEWS. September 02, 2014. Farmers from the horticultural sector will benefit from 17.8-million-lei-worth grants provided by the World Bank. Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Vasile Bumacov made statements to this effect at news conference.

Bumacov said that, with the aid of the provided financial resources and Moldovan investments of 27.4 million lei, five groups of producers would purchase refrigerators for preserving fruits and vegetables, fruit washing and calibration lines, sorting and packaging lines.

„At present, not only the quality of products matters, but also their quantity. The association of agricultural producers in groups will allow constantly supplying large quantities of fruits and vegetables,” Bumacov said.

The grant programme was launched in April 2014. The amount of a grant accounts for 50% of the investments for refrigerators, washing and calibration lines, sorting and packaging lines.

„The project’s idea is that only by associating, the farmers will be able to become competitive on the local and external market,” World Bank Programme Manager Olga Sainciuc said.
