OREANDA-NEWS.  September 02, 2014. Chicago Bridge & Iron (CB&I) has secured a contract from Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry for its grassroots petrochemicals complex in Ningxia, China. Under the contract, CB&I will provide licensing and engineering design services for the project.

Planned to be built in Lingwu, Yinchuan City, the petrochemical complex will incorporate CB&I's olefins conversion technology (OCT), comonomer production technology (CPT) and CDHydro selective hydrogenation technology. The facility will produce 196,000t of polymer grade propylene and 20,000t of comonomer grade-1 butene. The CDHydro technology is said to allow Shenhua Ningxia to include different feed from the adjoining steam cracker into the downstream OCT unit.

In addition, CB&I's CDIsis technology will be used to convert isobutene into normal butenes, which will increase the availability of potential polymer grade propylene from the steam cracker C4s. CB&I Technology operating group president Daniel McCarthy said: "Our Olefins Conversion Technology is the most widely used pathway for on-purpose polymer grade propylene in the world.

"This project further demonstrates CB&I's capability to integrate our broad technology portfolio to meet our customers' needs." The latest contract comes after CB&I was selected by Poland's Polski Koncern Naftowy (PKN) Orlen to license and design a metathesis plant for an on-purpose propylene production unit at its refining and petrochemical operations in Plock.
