OREANDA-NEWS. A cooling tower for circulating water supply at the pellet plant is launched at OEMK (part of Metalloinvest). The cooling tower is designed to cool circulating water and was built as a part of construction of the circulating water supply system, one of the Company's priority investment projects.

The new four-section cooling tower is produced by the Czech company FANS and has a processing capacity of 4,800 cubic meters of water per hour. It ensures the required cooling of circulating water for key equipment at Shaft Furnaces #1 and #2. Launching of this facility ensures cold water for the shaft furnaces and creates the necessary conditions for the stable and safe functioning of the equipment.

The cooling tower was designed given the specifics of the pelletisation process. It includes an improved system of sprinklers, prolonging the useful life of expensive components and ensuring the effective cooling of circulating water.

Nikolay Shlyakhov, Managing Director of OEMK, commented:

“The new cooling tower is a part of the circulating water supply system. Use of the system allows to minimise the amount of wastewater discharge that flows into the Oskol River. It currently accounts for on average less than 0.5% of the water that flows through the circulating water system. Bringing modernised wastewater cleaning facilities into operation last August has enabled us to substantially reduce our water intake and discharge and improve the condition of wastewater.”
