OREANDA-NEWS. Belarus has been taking measures at the level of the government to prevent the transit of embargoed goods to the Russian Federation.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Dmitry Mironchik said in a statement Belarus is taking all steps to prevent food transit to Russia from the countries on which it imposed a food import ban.

Belarus' State Control Committee has conducted an investigation following the allegation made by Russian President Vladimir Putin about Belarus' cheating the food import embargo.

Putin said that exporters often replace an EU label with a new one and send the goods to Russia.

Putin proved his words by displaying photographs of a man removing a label, under which the initial producer country - Poland is revealed.

Belarus' State Control Committee indentified the export company pictured on the photograph. It was the Mushroom Country private farm based in Brest Region. The investigation revealed that the private company had been using second-hand plastic crates for packing mushrooms. Some of the crates indeed had Polish labels on them. To avoid further accusation, the private company will stop using second-hand crates, the State Control Committee said.

On August 7, Russia banned imports of beef, pork, poultry, fish, cheese, dairy products, fruit and vegetables from Australia, Canada, Norway, the U.S. and the E.U. for one year as an answer to Western sanctions.
