OREANDA-NEWS. Mostotrest will rebuild the stretch of Bolshaya Akademicheskaya Street between Priorov Street and Dmitrovskoye Avenue in Koptevo and Timiryazevskiy districts in Northern Moscow, under a contract from the Moscow City Construction Department. The RUB 3.9 billion (including VAT) contract has been awarded as a result of the public tender. The project is scheduled for completion in November 2015.

As part of the project, Mostotrest will build a two-level traffic interchange at the intersection of Bolshaya Akademicheskaya Street and Mikhalkovskaya Street, as well as carry out reconstruction work to widen the driveway of Bolshaya Akademicheskaya Street (3,330 m) and Nizhnelihoborsky Proezd (480 m) to six lanes (three in each direction). The interchange will include a fifteen-section six-lane transit tunnel. The new tunnel will run through Bolshaya Akademicheskaya Street and under the existing tramway on Mikhalkovskaya Street. Mostotrest will also upgrade the adjacent road network (465 m), built road arms for local traffic and public transport, as well as two U-turn exits above the tunnel's enclosed section. In addition, the project envisions rearrangement of utilities, construction of 3 pedestrian underpasses and installation of an automated traffic control system. Noise barriers with a total length of about 3 km will be erected for neighborhood protection from exhaust fumes and noise pollution, while soundproof windows will be installed in homes located in close proximity to the reconstruction area. The total length of the Bolshaya Akademicheskaya Street segment to be rebuilt is 4.7 km.

The road segment under reconstruction is part of the Northwest through driveway between Skolkovo Avenue and Yaroslavl Avenue, providing a link between the North and the South of Moscow and alleviating traffic congestion the city center.
