OREANDA-NEWS. September 17, 2014. In the end of August Samsung Electronics and Estonian Investment Agency hosted a pitching event "Get Global with Samsung“ in Tallinn for connecting tech companies from the Nordic-Baltic region with the global player Samsung.

Team from Samsung Electronics came to look for innovative technologies that could be integrated into Samsung’s future products. It was a unique opportunity for local companies as such event had never happened before in the region.

Altogether 14 tech companies from Estonia, Finland and Norway were pre-selected by Samsung and got a chance to introduce their technology. The technology focus was on sensor technology, material processing, battery and energy, security, healthcare, artificial intelligence and software. Market-ready and proof-of-market products and services were preferred.
As a result of pitching and several rounds of questions, Samsung chose eight companies to discuss business in 1:1 meetings, among others the remote hardware management device, the cloud service for 3D printing, the secure internet solution and marine sensor system (*see full list of companies below).

Samsung’s aim was to find innovative technologies for the Samsung Electronics Sourcing Exhibition taking place in South Korea in October. Competition for the event in South Korea is tough as this year only 30 companies from all over the world will be chosen to be presented to the key decision makes of Samsung’s HQ. For those companies the results can be groundbreaking.

"The fact that Samsung chose to proceed with more than half of the participants, shows the true potential of Estonian technology companies," said Tanel Korvel, FDI Project Manager from Estonian Investment Agency. "We hope that some of our companies are so good that Samsung will invite them to take part of the exhibition in South Korea," Korvel added.

Samsung representatives were also positively surprised of the good match with local companies. They emphasized that they see a lot of great innovation happening in Europe and assured to take the message to Samsung Headquarter in Korea. There is already one success case from recent history when Elion, the Estonian subsidiary of Swedish telecommunications company TeliaSonera, helped to develop a smart TV solution for Samsung in 2012.
