OREANDA-NEWS. September 17, 2014. A Commencement Ceremony was convened for the Activated-coke Flue-gas Cleaning System of No. 2 Sintering Machine (450 square meters) of Lianfeng Iron & Steel (Zhangjiagang) Co., Ltd. in Zhangjiagang City.

This project is contracted by MCC Northern Engineering & Technology Corporation (NETC) on an EPC basis. Under this project, the first set of Activated-coke Flue-gas Cleaning System Sintering Machine will be manufactured, which is with completely independent intellectual property rights and all the equipment are made in China.

Through comprehensive treatment by this system, the sulfur dioxide, nitric oxide and dioxin-like chemicals can be removed, with a desulfurization efficiency of over 92%, which is in line with the current environment protection requirements and the future development trend of the flue-gas cleaning technology. According to the designed capacity, this project will annually reduce the emission of 9,210 tons of sulfur dioxide, 670 tons of dust and 1,758 tons of nitric oxide, and produce 15,000 tons of concentrated sulphuric acid, with an outstanding effect on energy conservation and emission reduction. The project is scheduled to be put into commissioning in April 2015.

The Activated-coke Flue-gas Cleaning System is jointly developed and popularized by NETC and Shanghai Clear Science & Technology Co., Ltd. Up to now, the completed technical assembly capability has been established for the whole process, including the flue gas system, adsorption-analytical system, delivering system and acid-making system, and all the devices can be made in China. Such a break through greatly reduced the construction investment and operational expenses of the project. In comparison with the other flue-gas cleaning technical process, the activated-coke will enable the co-processing of the pollutants.

The by-product is concentrated sulfuric acid with a content of 98%, which can be utilized in the pickling process for steel rolling and is of high use value. In addition, the broken coke powder can be recovered and used as fuels. There will be no sewage, no self-generated solid wastes, therefore no secondary pollution. Generally speaking, the overall energy consumption and the equipment maintenance cost are rated at a low level, and it is easy to undertake maintenance work.
