OREANDA-NEWS. September 25, 2014. The project has been implemented by Moldova’s Agriculture Ministry and UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

By FAO estimates, its cost approaches EUR 400,000. At the launching ceremony, Deputy Agriculture Minister of Moldova Gheorghe Gaberi said strengthening of the food safety sector of Moldova, compliance of the national legal framework with the European one and food safety risk monitoring and analysis were key objectives of the project.

The project aims to render technical and training assistance to specialist of the sector. On September 24/25 FAO experts are holding training courses for professional development of the staff employed in the food safety sector of Moldova.

According to Gheorghe Gaberi, although Moldova has signed the Association and DCFTA agreements, it will not be easy for Moldovan producers to conquer the EU market with its strong food safety requirements. There are some challenges for them to take up and in this respect the assistance of Moldova’s external partners, such as FAO, can hardly be overestimated. Head of the National Food Safety Agency (NFSA) Ion Sula said the Agency was committed to ensuring quality and safety of Moldova’s products.

He recalled that NFSA was one of key beneficiaries of the projects thanks to which the Agency's staff members would be able to exchange with experience with their overseas counterparts. According to him, the project is of great importance for our country and a final consumer has to know what company had made the product and be sure it is safe and of high quality.
