OREANDA-NEWS. October 06, 2014. Moldova will be provided with electricity in the autumn and winter time, despite the tensions in Ukraine and the possible reorganisation of the Ukrainian energy sector, said Gas Natural Fenosa President Silvia Radu at a press conference.

"The situation in Ukraine is tense, but the contract with CTE Moldova (also known as the Kuchurgan power station) sees that they will provide not only the needed quantities specified in the contract, but will also make additional deliveries, if necessary," added the manager of the largest electric energy distribution company in Moldova.

She said that "there should be no danger in autumn and winter; we have contracts till 1 April 2015". "Let us hope that these resources, provided by the Moldovan power plant, will be sufficient to cover the electricity needs in case of crisis," said Silvia Radu.

Moldova buys electricity from Ukraine through the DTEK Vostokenergo Company and Kuchurgan power station at a cost of 0.068 dollars per one kilowatt-hour, lower against the last two years, - 0.069 dollars.

Over two thirds of Moldova’s electricity consumption is covered by imports or purchases from the Kuchurgan power station. The electricity imports from Ukraine covered more than 40 per cent of the consumption in 2013.
