OREANDA-NEWS. October 15, 2014. Hosted by Sinosteel New Material Zhejiang Co., Ltd. and Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology of Tsinghua University, a grand opening ceremony of the 15th International Nuclear Graphite Specialists Meeting INGSM-15 was held in Hangzhou.

This was the first time in fifteen years held in China since its opening. Representative of International Atomic Energy Agency, Mr. Frederik Reitsma, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Gan Yong, Party Secretary of Sinosteel Corporation, Xu Siwei, Deputy Director of Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission, He Zhongwei, and President of Zhejiang Nuclear Society, Zheng Benwen, and other guests attended the meeting. President of Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology of Tsinghua University, Zhang Zuoyi, delivered a speech at the ceremony and gave a report on the development of HTGR High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor. Huang Dai, General Manager of Sinosteel New MaterialsZhejiang Co., Ltd. presided the meeting.

    Mr. Xu Siwei said in his speech that, in the last two years, under the guidance and support of Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology of Tsinghua University and China Nuclear Energy Technology Co., Ltd, Sinosteel New Material Co., Ltd. has accomplished the assessment of nuclear graphite’s static performance and plan design of nuclear radiation technology, and is going to initiate the radiation test of nuclear graphite materials according to international standards. Major breakthroughs made by Sinosteel New Material Co., Ltd. in the realm of nuclear graphite’s R&D have created advantageous conditions for the development of high-temperature gas-cooled reactor. By taking advantage of this meeting, Sinosteel Corporation will further strengthening the exchange and communication with specialists of nuclear graphite from various countries, and enhance the R&D and industrialization of nuclear graphite materials through down-to-earth efforts, for making positive contributions to the development of nuclear power industry.

Mr. Frederik Reitsma said in the speech that, the R&D and application of graphite will promote the development of nuclear power technology. Therefore, this meeting is not only the communication of technology, but also provides an opportunity for the extensive cooperation between all parties.

Vice President Gan Yong pointed out that, China’s nuclear power industry is going to usher in a new period of development as breakthroughs on HTGR technology have been made in recent years by China’s research institutions and corporations. This nuclear graphite specialists meeting held in China will have far-reaching influence on the development of high-temperature gas-cooled reactor and nuclear power industry throughout the world.

Deputy Director He Zhongwei said that, isostatic pressing formed graphite project of Sinosteel New Material Co., Ltd., which was settled in Changxing County of Zhejiang Province and realized its whole process operation and production in February of 2012, has not only filled the void in the realm of high quality isostatic pressing formed graphite of our country, but also created conditions for nuclear power equipment localization. Sinosteel Corporation’s isostatic pressing formed graphite project fully conforms to the industrial development direction of Zhejiang Province, and wins the priority support from Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reformation Commission in terms of industrial orientation and policy.

After introducing the development of high-temperature gas-cooled reactor in China, Mr. Zhang Zuoyi said that realizing the domestic production of nuclear graphite materials will play a critical role in HTGR’s development.
