OREANDA-NEWS. Georgian Minister of Energy, Kakha Kaladze and Calik Holding Chairman, Ahmet Calik have signed a memorandum of understanding for building and operating Alpana and Sadmeli hydro-electrical power plants (HEPP) in a ceremony held in Tbilisi with the participation of Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Taner Yildiz.

Alpana HEPP and Sadmeli HEPP projects will be the first hydroelectricity investments in Georgia and the first renewable energy projects in overseas for Calik Energy. The projects are planned to have a capacity of 71 MW and 152 MW respectively, and to generate an overall power of 1 billion KWh.

The projects are estimated to be commissioned in 2020, lead to the improvement of Turkish-Georgian relations and to new investments in Georgia.
