OREANDA-NEWS. Piraeus Bank became a partner of the Fourth Annual Bank Conference "Market and Liquidity Risks Management in Banks" that was organized by Extra Consulting Company on October 16-17, 2014 in Kiev.

Speakers of the conference, which was devoted to the analysis of macroeconomic trends and challenges in Ukraine and its impact on the banking sector, were CEO of Piraeus Bank Sergey Naumov and a member of the Board - chief risk manager of Piraeus Bank Tatiana Sotnikova.

As stated Sergey Naumov during the panel discussion about the state of the Ukrainian banking system due to the Russian military aggression in the East of the country, "lending of the economy becomes increasingly problematic due to a significant outflow of resources from the banking system, caused in particular, by lack of confidence in the deposit reliability, which consequently reduced the level of the banks' liquidity and their ability to lending business customers".

In its turn, member of the Board Tatiana Sotnikova emphasized that "direct loss of loan and deposit portfolios of the Ukrainian banking system due to the annexation of the Crimea and the fighting in the Donbas are tangible. However, in addition to direct losses in the problematic regions of Ukraine, all banks meet with indirect effect due to the deteriorating of political and economic situation in general".
