OREANDA-NEWS.  October 22, 2014. PT Pertamina (Persero) began operating Vi-Gas station in the complex of the Army’s Headquarter in Cilangkap as part of Pertamina and the Army’s support to the Blue Sky Program and to help reduce the consumption of oil fuels and convert that to gas.

The beginning of the operation of the Vi-Gas station was marked by the first Vi-Gas refueling of the Army’s operational vehicles by Pertamina interim CEO Muhamad Husen and Army Irjen Let. Gen. Syafril Mahyudin at the Army’s Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta (14/10).

Pertamina as an energy state-owned company had developed several alternative fuels to be consumed by the public, one of them was LGV (Liquefied Gas for Vehicle) which was known under the brand of Vi-Gas. This gas fuel, which was formulated specially motorized vehicles, comprised of the mix of Propane (C3) and Butane (C4) with the specification which had been adjusted to motorized vehicle’s requirement based on Oil and Gas Letter of Authorization No. 2527.K/24/DJM/2007.

With the RON of more than 98, VI-Gas had several plus points compared to oil fuels which were eco-friendly, perfect combustion, sulfur and lead-free, able to prolong the lubricant change cycle, prolonging machine age, smoothen the sound of the machine and knocking-free. Vi-Gas also had other advantages including cost-efficient in term of the construction and operation of the gas station and the converter kit. With all those advantages, it was expected that customers could make LGV as their choice.

“Judging from the population of vehicles consuming it and amount of the gas stations, LGV, which in Indonesia is known as Vi-Gas, ranks third in among fuels for transporation vehicles with the first being gasoline and then diesel fuel. Around the globe, LGV is used by more than 23 million vehicles and available in more than 67,000 stations,” said Husen.

To support the market development of Vi-Gas in Indonesia, Pertamina had operated 11 gas stations in Greater Jakarta and three in Bali. In addition to that, for Greater Jakarta, there were eight gas stations which were ready to be operated as new Vi-Gas stations.

“The inauguration of the Vi-Gas station at the Cilangkap Army’s Headquarter is part of Pertamina and the Army support to help the government realize the Blue Sky Program and reduce the consumption of oil fuels and convert it to gas. In the conversion field, Pertamina has prepared the infrastructure, source of supply and retail sales from upstream to downstream,” he said.
