OREANDA-NEWS. October 29, 2014. The first exchange trading with natural gas took place at St Petersburg Mercantile Exchange.

The project is implemented under the Protocol of a meeting of the Presidential Commission on the strategy of developing fuel-and-energy complex and environmental safety.

The Chairman of the Board of “Rosneft” Oil Company” OJSC and the Executive Secretary of the Presidential Commission on the strategy of developing fuel-and-energy complex and environmental safety, Igor Sechin; Deputy Head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia), Anatoly Golomolzin; the President of St Petersburg Mercantile Exchange, Alexei Rybnikov; Deputy Chairman of the Board of “Gazprom” OJSC, Valery Golubev; the Head of FAS Department for Control over Fuel-and-Energy Complex, Dmitry Makhonin; federal executive bodies and representatives of independent gas-producing companies took part in the official ceremony.

Anatoly Golomolzin pointed out that to execute the decision of the Presidential Commission on fuel-and-energy complex, FAS organized work with the Bank of Russia, the Ministry of Energy, St Petersburg Mercantile Exchange, “Rosneft” Oil Company” OJSC and “Gazprom” OJSC to launch exchange trading.

“For the first months there will be trading for month ahead, and from 2015 there also will be trading for ten days and a day ahead. It is expected that under the established rules, from 2015 around 35 billion m3 of gas per year will be sold through exchange. “Gazprom” and independent gas producers, as well as large buyers in all sectors of the national economy will take part in trading. Establishing market indices of gas prices will facilitate sustainable development of Russia”, commented Deputy Head of FAS Anatoly Golomolzin.

At the moment the following participants of exchange trading with gas are registered: “Rosneft” Oil Company” OJSC, “Gazprom Mezhregiongaz” Ltd., “Novatek” OJSC, “Fortum” OJSC, “NL Russia” OJSC, “KES-Trading” CJSC, “Severneft-Urengoi” Ltd., “INTER RAO-Electric Power Plants” OJSC, etc.

At the first exchange trading, 8.5 million m3 of gas for the total amount 22,387,900 million RUB were sold from “Nadym” balance point (the average daily price was 2634 RUB) and 6 million m3 of gas for the total amount 15,774,000 million RUB from “Vyngapurovskaya” balance point (the average daily price was 2629 RUB).
