OREANDA-NEWS. The annual Fiddler's Ferry golf day has raised a remarkable 2014 total of GBP 32,000 for local hospices in Cheshire.

The event - the 14th of its kind supported by the SSE power station - was hosted by Blundells Hill golf club in Rainhill. This year's winning team was Hargreaves - who beat 33 other four-strong teams to overall victory. Participants were treated to a post-match evening meal and auction hosted by local comedian Willie Miller. Auction prizes were donated by Fiddler's Ferry Alliance partners.

The money raised will be divided between Zoe's Place Baby Hospice, St Rocco's Hospice and Halton Haven Hospice. The team with the lowest score on the day was also given the opportunity to nominate a fourth charity. This resulted in an equal split of remaining funds between Alder Hey Charity and the Scottish Spina Bifida Association.

Jannette Pierce who works at SSE's Fiddler's Ferry power station, said:

“We are so pleased to have been able to organise another fantastic charity golf day this year. Golfers in the Fiddler's Ferry workforce including SSE personnel and our contractors had a wonderful time playing some superb quality competitive golf; all in the name of wonderful causes.

“Hospice care is something we are honoured to support and it means a great deal to those involved from Fiddler's Ferry to have an opportunity like this to make a collective difference to those in need in their local area.”
