OREANDA-NEWS. An independent study conducted by professional services firm PwC has found that SSE contributed GBP 27bn to the UK economy over the past three years.

It comes ahead of SSE announcing its Half Year Results on 12 November.

The report examines the direct contribution of energy company SSE to employment and GDP. It also considers the indirect economic impact of SSE's supply chain spending and analyses where that expenditure is spent.

The report's main findings on SSE are:

GBP 27bn contribution to UK economy over the past three years;

GBP 8.94bn contribution to GVA in 2013/14, representing 0.6% of the UK economy; and

111,900 jobs supported in 2013/14

Alistair Phillips-Davies, Chief Executive of SSE, said: "SSE is proud to have contributed GBP 27bn to the UK economy in the past three years. It shows the scale of our commitment to UK plc and measures the economic benefit that our investment brings.

“As a responsible company, SSE seeks to maximise the economic benefits from its activities, not just in the countries it operates in, but in local communities too. This analysis from PwC helps us to identify areas where we can enhance our impact.”

The report also found in FY14, SSE contributed GBP 1,349m to Scottish GDP and supported 17,010 jobs. Over the past three years, SSE has contributed GBP 3,928m to the Scottish economy.

The study also assessed the economic impact of the recently opened Keadby wind farm - a 34 turbine, 68MW onshore wind farm located near Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire. Not only does the windfarm power over 38,000 houses but contributed an estimated GBP 43.3m to GDP and provided the equivalent of 720 person years of employment during the construction phase.
