OREANDA-NEWS. Ingosstrakh Insurance Company insured the risks associated with the launch and operation of the Express-AM6 spacecraft, which was successfully placed into its precalculated orbit from Baikonur cosmodrome on October 21, 2014. The total sum insured is RUB bn 5.5.

The insurant was FSUE Space Communication. The policy defends the property interests of the enterprise associated with damage or loss of SC Express-AM6 for the period of its launch and for one year of its operations in the orbit.

Proton-М launch vehicle with Breeze-M upper stage rocket placed the Express-AM6 telecommunication satellite on its orbit. The satellite was designed in Academician M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems OJSC (JSC "ISS") on the basis of Express-2000, a heavy class platform. The spacecraft is intended for the provision of a broad range of communication and broadcasting services in Russia. Its payload includes 72 transponders in C-, Ku-, Ka-, and L frequency ranges. The satellite is planned to operate in space for at least 15 years.

The company has provided insurance coverage to FSUE "Space communication" since 1999. Ingosstrakh Insurance Company has a great experience not only in insurance, but also in the settlement of losses on the risks associated with spacecraft launch and their operation in orbit. In particular, a payment of RUB bn 7.5 in respect of the loss of Express-AM4 satellite in 2012 became one of the largest insurance indemnity amounts in the history of Russian insurance.
