OREANDA-NEWS. November 17, 2014. Around 480,000 cruise ship passengers docked in Tallinn this year, slightly higher than the estimated 470,000, but well short of the 520,000 who made a day visit to Tallinn in 2013.

The number of ships was down too, from 326 last year to 297 this year.

Industry experts said new cruise ship destinations have popped up while some older ports have grown in popularity. Fewer cruise ships have St. Petersburg as their destination, which is also a negative news for Tallinn, as the Russian seaside city is the main attraction of the area.

A quarter of all passengers were Germans, followed by people from the United States (18 percent) and the UK (14 percent). A third of all cruise ship passengers to dock in Tallinn were older than 65, with two-thirds rating the experience 9 or 10 points from out of 10.

The season runs from the end of April until the end of September.
