OREANDA-NEWS. The reconstruction was conducted by specialists from Transstroymekhanizatsiya LLC, which is part of Mostotrest Group. The client was FGI Tsentroavtomagistral.

Before reconstruction operations were launched on the 17+910 km - 50+016 km section between the Moscow Ring Road and the Small Ring Road was the most congested section on the Baltic Highway. The goal of the reconstruction project was to increase road capacity in order to meet traffic flow demands.

As part of the project, the number of lanes in each direction were increased to 3-5 throughout the entire 30 km section (before the reconstruction, there were 2-3 lanes in each direction). The project also included 19 bridge structures have been reconstructed (including 3 bridges, 15 overhead road sections and 1 overpass), a transport interchange at the intersection with the A-107 Highway (Small Ring Road) and ramps leading to the M-9 Highway from all six transport interchanges located along the section.

In order to ensure road safety, the entire section is equipped with metal barrier fences and wire mesh fences that prevent wild animals from entering the road section. Thanks to an automated traffic management section, the highway will be one of the most up-to-date and safe roads. Traffic speed along the new section will be 120km/hr.

The 17+910 km - 50+016 km section was the first phase of the large-scale reconstruction of the M-9 Blatic Highway. Currently, Transstroymekhanizatsiya LLC is continuing operations on the second stage of the project, which entails the reconstruction of the 50+016 km - 82+878 km section and the challenging engineering solutions located on the highway, including crossovers, bridges and transport interchanges. The operations are scheduled for completion in the beginning of 2016.

In 2013, Transstroymekhanizatsiya LLC carried out an overhaul of the 306-321 km section of the M-9 Highway in Tver Oblast. The changes allowed to increase average traffic speeds and the level of traffic safety.

The M-9 Highway (from Moscow through Volokolamsk until the border with the Republic of Latvia in the direction of Riga) is a category I federal highway. The road, which stretches over a total of 610 km, is part of the European E22 route.
