OREANDA-NEWS. Belarus may resume pork export to Russia starting December 1, 2014, Belarus' Vice Minister of Agriculture Vasili Sedin told reporters Wednesday.

Sedin referred to a negotiations held in Moscow on November 11 with representatives of Russia's agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor. In his words, it was a very productive meeting: the parties agreed to intensify quality control, especially at four Belarusian meat-packing plants, which exported pork with the genome of the African Swine Fever (ASF) to the Russian market.

"The parties agreed to strengthen control over the quality of products. All the companies will be inspected once again. A document will be compiled to include all the nuances," Sedin said.

As previously reported, on October 31 Russia temporarily suspended pork export from Belarus.

The import ban was imposed on imports of chilled and frozen pork and pork byproducts after Rosselkhoznadzor announced that the ASF genome had been found in products made by meat-packing factories in Bobruisk, Orsha, Minsk, and Mogilev as well as at Belatmit Company.
