OREANDA-NEWS. November 24, 2014. This October, Klaipeda Port cargo turnover has grown by 24.3 %: total of 3,652.8 thousand tons (including LNG – 48.6 thousand tons) were handled, i.e. 713.6 thousand tons more than in October 2013.

This is an absolute one month cargo handling operations record in the history of Klaipeda Port.

Previous record was documented in October 2011 and amounted to 3,298.2 thousand tons.

In October 2014, impressive fertilizers, grain and containerized cargo (both in units and in tons) handling results were documented:

- fertilizers - 1,085.8 thousand tons handled, i.e. 403.1 thousand tons or 93.9 % more than in October 2013);

- grains – 596.0 thousand tons handled, which is a new grain handling volume record  in the history of Klaipeda Port (the change made +90.5 % or +283.1 thousand tons compared with October 2013);

- containerized cargo (in tons) – 511.3 thousand tons handled (+19.8 % or +84.3 thousand tons compared with October 2013), which is the best result of the month in 2014;

- containerized cargo (TEU) – 42,032 TEU handled (9.4 % or 3,615 TEU more than in October 2013).

Other cargos that conditioned the handling volumes in this October:

- oil products – 511.5 thousand tons handled , +6.3 % or +30.3 thousand tons;

- new cargo - LNG (liquefied natural gas) – 48.6 thousand tons.

In the period January to October 2014, Klaipeda Port’s cargo turnover has increased by 7.3%: total of 30.1 million tons handled, i.e. 2.0 million tons more than during the same period last year.

Such growth in Klaipeda Port’s handling volumes was mostly conditioned by a 42.7 % growth in fertilizers handling operations: total of 10,168.1 thousand tons handled or 3,044.4 thousand tons more than in January to October 2013.

Other cargos that conditioned the handling volumes in January to October 2014:

- containerized cargo – 4,656.0 thousand tons handled, i.e. +21.9 % or +836.5 thousand tons);

- agricultural products – 2,658.3 thousand tons handled (including grain – 2,135.4 thousand tons, +26.2 %), i.e. +7.7 % or +190.3 thousand tons);

- ore – 984.5 thousand tons handled, i.e. +23.4 % or +186.4 thousand tons).
