OREANDA-NEWS. Inter RAO Group completed a large-scale new investment and development project at Yuzhnouralskaya TPP-2 and launched the second combined-cycle power generation unit rated at 420 MW. The Government of Russia included this project in the list of power generation facilities supporting capacity delivery agreements. The construction was completed on schedule.

The new state-of-the-art unit will provide an opportunity to retire the inefficient legacy non-modular equipment of Yuzhnouralskaya TPP without reducing the overall power output or installed capacity.

Core equipment of the second power generation unit at Yuzhnouralskaya TPP-2 includes Siemens AG combined-cycle power plants meeting the most stringent environmental standards and offering some of the industry highest power generation efficiencies at 55% to 59%. The new unit also uses a Russian-made boiler supplied by ZiO-Podolsk. The primary fuel of the new power generation unit is natural gas.

This project was delivered by LLC Inter RAO - Engineering, a fully owned subsidiary of JSC Inter RAO. Atomstroyexport was the general contractor.

“The completion of the large-scale development at Yuzhnouralskaya TPP-2 is an important step towards a strategic priority in development of power generation business of Inter RAO Group in Russia, which is maintaining the national leadership by installed capacity and becoming the leader in efficient management of power generation assets focused on practical innovations and improved power efficiency,” said Chief Executive of JSC Inter RAO Boris Kovalchuk.
