OREANDA-NEWS. November 28, 2014. Human development in Moldova can be achieved by having a strong private sector and companies, for their part, can only thrive in a prosperous society, according to the National Human Development Report 2014 released.

The National Report states that the private sector had the tools to ensure rapid anchored modernisation, says a press release issued by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

"A sustainable and inclusive development in Moldova, which benefits all people, can be achieved only through the efforts of the government, private sector and society in general," says UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of Moldova Nicola Harrington-Buhay. "I trust that this edition will inspire all partners in each sector and will help to ensure the future Moldova wishes for", said the UN official.

"Human development in Moldova is still blocked, and this process must accelerate", says the National Human Development Report 2014. The report's authors found that the level of human development in the country is improving every year, but progress is not strong enough to relieve discrepancies between villages and towns and inequality of opportunity between women and men.

In this context, the private sector in Moldova - in its capacity as employer, investor, taxpayer, technologies generator - must be a development partner. A partner who contributes with well-paid jobs, generous social packages, paid taxes, implementation of new technologies, public-private partnerships, social and community donations, practical expertise transfer.

"The private sector provides for about 80 per cent of the tax revenues to the national budget" and "two thirds of the jobs created in the economy." The report reveals that Moldova has covered only 64 per cent of the goal set on best practice in the regulation of the private sector activity, found in the report under "agent of change" and "engine of technological progress" against the Baltic States who are closer by 10 per cent.
