OREANDA-NEWS. November 28, 2014. Kazatomprom jointly with Dutch and American partners is working on solar power plants in the Middle East and North Africa.

This has been reported by Minister of Energy Vladimir Shkolnik at the press conference after the meeting with Minister of Economic Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Henk Kamp.

V. Shkolnik said that, the whole cycle of the technology industry on solar panels has been created in Kazakhstan on behalf of the Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev during the last 2, 5-3 years.

"At the moment we are working closely with the Dutch company ECN, which is one of the world leaders in the development and improvement of technologies on transformation sunlight into electrical energy. We intend to work together in the Middle East, including in Qatar, and currently we are working on a major project with a capacity of tens GW to provide it with relevant technology and appropriate solar cells and panels," Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan said, in response to journalists' questions.

According to V. Shkolnik, for today a group has been formed consisting of American, Dutch experts, as well as Kazatomprom employees.

"Currently we are working on the creation and maintenance of building several (solar power plants – Ed.) with capacity of more than 10 GW of electricity in North Africa and the Middle East," Vladimir Shkolnik said.
