OREANDA-NEWS. Christopher Clark, Chairman of PAO Severstal, one of the world's leading steel and steel-related mining companies, has been named the winner of the National Director of the Year awards for the second year running, held today in Moscow. The award category is Best Chairman of the Board of Directors: Contribution to the Development of Corporate Management.

The awards ceremony was hosted by the Independent Directors Association, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, The Moscow Stock Exchange, PwC and OAO Sberbank. The award recognizes the contributions of Directors to the development of corporate governance in Russian companies.

Christopher Clark said: "I would like to thank the Committee for this prestigious award at this event which supports ever improving standards of corporate governance in Russia. At Severstal we are in no doubt that high quality corporate governance underpins long term performance and has been an important contributor to Severstal being a leader in value creation including today delivering the highest margins amongst our peers."

Nominees will be judged by a council of experts from state bodies and blue-chip international organizations, based on criteria including Board of Directors' involvement in the corporate management system, effectiveness and transparency.

Two further members of Severstal's Board of Directors, Rolf Stomberg and Martin Angle, were also recognized among the 50 Best Independent Directors alongside Christopher Clark this year.
