OREANDA-NEWS. Many airline passengers appreciate being able to switch their phone to flight mode on board of an airplane, and to be unavailable for once for the duration of the flight. But who says that you need to be in the air in order to take a digital time-out? A new Lufthansa smartphone app, which is available now at the AppStore, helps busy people avoid their digital obligations and temptations for a while, particularly during hectic times like in the busy festive season. With the help of the new app, users can help not only themselves, but also others. Whenever the Lufthansa Flight Mode app is activated, it registers every minute in which the smartphone is in flight mode – whether on board or on the ground. Until December 24, the minutes collected in this way are totaled from all app users worldwide and translated into donations. These donations, in cooperation with the Help Alliance, are used for school projects in India and Benin, as well as for a children’s daycare center in Brazil. To follow the actual support provided, go to lh.com/flightmode. Here, you can also find further information on the app and the campaign, and you can also see, for example, where in the world people are currently enjoying a time-out with the Lufthansa Flight Mode app.

Alexander Schlaubitz, Head of Marketing at Lufthansa: "For us, the Lufthansa Flight Mode app is the natural continuation of what we offer our passengers on board, namely a good time. The guest has a moment's peace, enjoys the service and makes use of the relaxed atmosphere to take a little time-out. We are aware that many of our passengers lead a hectic life and are often stressed. That's why we'd like to remind them that they shouldn't be permanently 'on call' – especially at this time of the year."

The Help Alliance was founded in 1999 by Lufthansa employees from all areas of the company. The charity supports projects in developing countries with the aim of helping people lead independent lives. The humanitarian activities focus on nutrition and healthcare programs, schools, educational facilities, business start-ups, and street children projects.

Moreover, the charity provides disaster relief. The project leaders of the support initiative are volunteers and have no political or religious affiliation. The Lufthansa Group supports this organization financially, logistically, and through communication measures.
