OREANDA-NEWS. Vyksa Steel Works (VSW Joint Stock Company, based in the Nizhny Novgorod region, part of United Metallurgical Company, OMK Joint Stock Company, Moscow) has tallied the results of the "Professional 2014" first corporate workmanship competition, which was held among blue-collar workers. The 30 best workers in 8 different job categories were named at the awards ceremony, which took place on December 3, 2014. They all received certificates and cash prizes.

"The blue-collar worker is the primary person at any production facility. The demand for products depends on the quality of their work and so does the factory's competitiveness. I am happy that the first "Professional 2014" competition was popular with our staff. I believe that the experience gained by the contestants will help them in their work moving forward. The victory will add confidence in their strength and will motivate them to improve their workmanship," said Sergey Filippov, BVP's Managing Director.

There are plans to make this competition annual and to extend it to other OMK factories.

The "Professional 2014" competition for blue-collar workers took place between September and November of this year. A total of 160 employees from VSW and the Casting and Rolling Complex (CRC, based in the Nizhny Novgorod region, part of OMK) participated in the event. Winners were named in eight job categories: tuner, burner, hydraulic mechanic, electrician, automated technology system operator, inspector, manual electric welder, and control post operator. The contenders were tested in the theory and practice of their respective fields. The panel judged their workmanship, the speed of work, workplace order, and compliance with labor safety standards.
