OREANDA-NEWS. The Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project Units 3&4 (2x1000 MW) at Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu are proposed for launch in late 2015 / early 2016.
Government has already accorded administrative and financial sanction for the project and statutory clearances have been obtained. Site has been made ready for construction activities.

Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project Units 3&4 are scheduled for commissioning in the year 2020-21.

The first unit of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP-1) was synchronised to the grid in October, 2013. Subsequently, the power level was raised in steps as per the laid down procedures and in accordance with the regulatory clearances. At each stage, various tests were conducted and the results submitted to the regulatory authority. As a result, the unit had to be operated at lower power levels. The unit achieved full power (1000 MW) on June 07, 2014. It has so far generated 2825 Million Units (MUs) of electricity. The unit was shut down for inspection and repairs of the turbine in September 2014 and reconnected to the grid on December 07, 2014. KKNPP-2 is currently under commissioning.
