OREANDA-NEWS. Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy has said that the Ministry of Rural Development is undertaking a Placement Linked Skill Development scheme for rural poor youth called PanditDeenDayalUpadhyayaGrameenKaushalyaYojana (DDU-GKY). This initiative is part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM). One of the objectives of the DDU-GKY is to enable an alternative source of livelihood through regular wage employment.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today Shri Rudy said, DDU-GKY allows skilling of rural youth under courses which may get certification from Sector Skills Councils under NSDC or the National Council of Vocational Training. The DDU-GKY provides for skill development courses which enable placement after a training program on technical skills, soft skills, English and IT skills, ranging from a minimum of 576 hours to a maximum of 2304 hours.
