OREANDA-NEWS. December 19, 2014. Prime Minister Taavi Roivas who is visiting the United States of America with a representative business delegation attended the electronic stock exchange NASDAQ in New York and participated in its opening.

NASDAQ welcomed Estonia in a grand way. The message that was displayed in the NASDAQ video wall at New York Times Square introduced Estonia in the following way: “Welcome to E-Estonia, The Digital Society – e-estonia.com” and there were also welcoming messages by NASDAQ: “NASDAQ welcomes the Estonian delegation, December 12, 2014” and “NASDAQ welcomes Mr. Taavi Roivas, Prime Minister of Estonia, December 12, 2014”.

“The opportunity to participate in the opening ceremony of the technology stock exchange day is a great tribute to Estonia as the most developed information society in Europe,” Prime Minister Roivas said.

NASDAQ was founded in 1971, being the world’s first electronic stock market and the main one to list technology companies. Today, NASDAQ with its 3,400 listed companies holds the first rank among stock exchange markets in the world, offering services related to trading, stock exchange technology and listed companies across six continents.
NASDAQ portfolio covers 26 different stock exchanges and five central securities depositories, including the ones of all three countries, as well as the Tallinn Stock Exchange.

The Prime Minister and the delegation accompanying him also met with the management board of the NASDAQ Group today. Additionally, the delegation plans to visit companies engaged in technology investments – Silver Lake and Warburg Pincus – to introduce Estonia as a successful growth platform for technology companies and as a leading e-country and talk about opportunities that the e-residency creates for the promotion of entrepreneurship. This will also provide the Estonian delegation with an opportunity to network and better understand the expectations of the investors.

Additionally, Prime Minister Roivas will give an interview to Bloomberg TV, visit one of the leading helicopter manufacturers, Sikorsky Aircraft, and make a presentation at the Council on Foreign Relations, where he will introduce the Estonian e-solutions and e-resident opportunities. In the evening, Roivas will meet with Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Jan Eliasson. At the same time, the business delegation will participate in a business seminar on starting a business in New York. The day will end with the meeting of the heads and members of the European-American Chamber of Commerce and a reception for the friends of Estonia.
