OREANDA-NEWS. 'EPC World' and 'Ernst &Young', at the '5th EPC World Award Ceremony' held at New Delhi on 18th Dec 2014, have conferred 'Outstanding Contribution in Power T&D (EPC Category)' award to Tata Projects. Tata Projects was the only power transmission & distribution (T&D) company to receive this award.

The award was for commissioning of 'Simhapuri - Nellore - Kurnool Power Transmission Line' in original contractual completion time. This also happens to be the longest 765kV D/C line (304 Km) with highest single contract order value ever awarded by Power Grid costing about Rs700Cr. The line comprises approximately 54,000MT of tower parts and 11,000Km of conductor length, which is almost equal to the circumference of the moon.

This transmission line has enabled Southern Grid to link up with Andhra Pradesh grid and has impacted a population of over 4 crore people in various districts, who shall now have access to regular electricity supply. It is a project of strategic importance to the nation. The grid would now enable evacuation of about 2500MW electricity from power stations in the region, and would help capitalise about Rs4000crore (as estimated by Power Grid).

The award was given by State Minister of Steel & Mines, Government of India, Vishnu Deo Sai along with State Minister of Railways, Government of India, Manoj Sinha in the presence of many MPs, including Aviation minister Mahesh Sharma, Dinesh Gandhi and Meenakshi Lekhi. It was received by Vivek Gautam, BU head T&D on behalf of Tata Projects.
