OREANDA-NEWS. Traffic was launched on the section of the Moscow-St. Petersburg Highway from the Businovskaya Interchange at MKAD to Festivalnaya Street. The section will become a part of the Northern Beltway - the direct highway crossing Moscow from East to North, bypassing the centre of Moscow. The set of complicated engineering solutions that includes 19 overpasses, including the multi-level interchange on Festivalnaya Street, has been completed by Mostotrest specialists within a short period of just 24 months.

The section is located in the Northern administrative district of Moscow and connects the Businovskaya Interchange and Korovinskoye Highway. The interchange at the intersection with Festivalnaya Street ensure transport connection between the Khovrino, Golovinsky and Zapadnoye Degunino districts (separated by railroad tracks), which considerably eased traffic not only for these districts, but for the entire Northern administrative district.

The state contract between the Moscow City Construction Department and Mostotrest was signed in December 2012. Mostotrest's specialists started construction works at the beginning of 2013.

The project entails the construction of four overpasses (1,2,3,4) with a total length of 1.5km, which run parallel to Zelenogradskaya Street along the October railway and the highway section from Businovskaya Interchange to the exit on to the overpass. Overpasses 1 and 2 cross each other and carry eight lanes of traffic (four in each direction). Overpasses 3 and 4 will extend overpass 2 and have four lanes running in the same direction, carrying the left-hand (Centre - MKAD) and right-hand (MKAD - Centre) traffic along the Northern Beltway. Mostotrest has also completed a three-level transport interchange at the intersection with Festivalnaya Street, which includes 15 highway overpasses and 9 exits with total lengths of 2.9km and 3.4km, respectively.

One feature of the project has been the need to remove car parking spaces, shops, stores, service centres and summer cottage properties from the construction zone. In addition, the builders have completed a significant amount of work on removing and refitting engineering networks in the construction zone, in particular, water pipes, gas pipes, heat networks, electrical cables, sewerage networks and rainwater drainage pipes.

The windows in apartment blocks located in direct proximity to the overpasses that are being built have been replaced with soundproof units. The project also includes erecting noise barriers to protect homes from traffic noise.

Mostotrest used modern construction technologies for the project, which allowed specialists to considerably shorten the project timelines. Thus, the method of longitudinal sliding of overpass superstructures was implemented through the operating October railway pathways.
