OREANDA-NEWS. The 2014 Salnikov Cup took place on 19-20 December. The tournament featured 360 swimmers from all over the world, who gathered in St. Petersburg to compete in 35 events. The Cup's organisors announced that in the eight years since the inaugural championships, the standard of competition, and interest in the tournament, have grown significantly. Many athletes have broken their own personal bests at the meet.

This year's Salnikov Cup was no exception: it was lit up by the Russian Vladimir Morozov, who won the 100m IM event with a national record of 50.77. Katinka Hosszu from Hungary made the podium six times, winning five gold medals.

The four-time Olympic champion Vladimir Salnikov noted at the closing ceremony that the championships had been outstanding, and an early New Year's surprise for everyone who had watched the events at the stadium or on television.
