True to its philosophy of working towards the betterment of under privileged section of the society, particularly those residing in JJ Clusters and re-settlement colonies, Tata Power Delhi Distribution (TPDDL) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Delhi Jal Board for installing of industrial type RO plants with ATW (Any time water) machines, popularly called Water ATWMs.

The MoU was signed by Praveer Sinha, CEO & ED, TPDDL and Vijay Kumar, CEO, Delhi Jal Board in the august presence of Lt. Governor of Delhi, Najeeb Jung. As per the MoU, TPDDL would install 10 water ATWMs during the current financial at Haiderpur, Lal Bagh (Azadpur), Sanjay Basti, Timarpur, Inder Lok, Kirtinagar, Keshavpuram, Chander Shekhar Azad colony and Wazirpur Industrial Area. These areas have been shortlisted in consultation with area Pradhans and instructors of TPDDL's Women Literacy Centres. An entrepreneur / Self Help Group from the community shall be developed at each of the sites for smooth operation and maintenance of the Water ATWMs.

The Lieutenant Governor Mr Jung expressed happiness on the development and said "The Tata group has always been at the forefront of CSR activities and I am happy to know that Tata Power Delhi Distribution is following the Tata group's ethos of reaching out to the underprivileged section of the society though various people centric initiatives. Setting up of RO plants by TPDDL in association with DJB in JJ Clusters in North and Northwest Delhi is a commendable initiative and will ensure pure drinking water to the people. I believe this type of Government -Corporate partnership for societal good holds a huge potential for the benefit of the society".

Commenting of the noble initiative, Mr Sinha said, "We would like to thank Delhi Jal Board for joining hands with us for the unique social cause. TPDDL has been striving for the improvement of quality of life and upliftment of people in line with Tata Group's CSR ethos. The installing of Water ATWMs is in addition to various CSR initiatives like women literacy centres, vocational training centres, drug de-addiction camps, free medical services among others."

TPDDL has been conducting 290 women literacy centres and 8 vocational training centres in 223 JJ clusters in its operational area.

Over the next three years, TPDDL has planned to install a total of 100 safe drinking water RO plants with ATW Dispensing systems which will directly benefit approximately one million residents of the JJ clusters/resettlement colonies. TPDDL has around 223 JJ clusters in its licensed area.

Each Water ATWMs has a capacity of purifying 500-1500 litres of water per hour. Already, TPDDL has installed such Water ATWMs in five government schools during the month of October 2014.
