OREANDA-NEWS. Tata Power Delhi Distribution (TPDDL), a joint venture of Tata Power and Government of Delhi, supplying electricity in North and Northwest Delhi plans to set-up five Night Shelters in its area of operation to help the homeless people in the prevailing cold conditions.

TPDDL is doing this at the behest of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung. The night shelters will be operational in the next three to four days and will complement the existing 249 Night Shelters catering to over 18000 homeless people. TPDDL will set up these shelters in coordination with the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), the Government's nodal agency for running Night Shelters.

"I appreciate Tata Power Delhi Distribution for adhering to the Tata Group's ethos of reaching out to the underprivileged section of the society in the hour of need. They have come forward to help the homeless in the chilling winter conditions by agreeing to set up night shelters. I am a votary of a strong Government - Corporate partnership for the societal good and believe their contribution will surely make a difference in our efforts to provide a warm and cozy place to city's homeless," said Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Najeeb Jung.

Speaking on the initiative Praveer Sinha, CEO & ED, TPDDL said, "TPDDL is reaching out to the underprivileged section of the society in consonance with the Tata Group's ethos, through its various CSR initiatives targeting youth, women and children. This winter season we are extending our reach to the homeless people in the prevailing winter condition by setting up 5 Night Shelters in our area of operation. We believe through this initiative we will contribute our bit towards the challenging and relentless work of the Delhi Government of providing shelter to the needy in prevailing cold conditions".
