K?nigshovener H?he Wind FarmOREANDA-NEWS. The team installing the Konigshovener Hohe wind farm have some eventful weeks behind them. At the weekend, the last of a total of twelve wind turbines was commissioned. Construction Stage One (38 megawatts) was thus completed on time after ten months of work, and Stage Two (29 megawatts) has already begun. This second stage will add nine wind turbines, class 3.2 megawatts. Konigshovener Hohe wind farm should be fully operational by the end of 2015. The investment totals around EUR 110 million.

“The first part is finished. We began installing the wind turbines last summer. Bit by bit, the tower sections, nacelles and blade sets have been assembled. Grid connection and subsequent commissioning took place in parallel, so that all turbines from construction Stage One are now supplying green electricity. Post-commissioning is also a pre-commissioning stage: work is already under way on construction Stage Two. Most of the access roads and crane pads will be in place by Christmas, and we’re going to lay the foundations in the spring,” explains RWE Innogy’s Boris Ossadnik, Project Leader.

The entire wind farm is being built on land reclaimed from the Garzweiler open-cast mine. Installed power will be around 67 megawatts. Senvion is the manufacturer of the turbines, each of which stands 200 metres high. The climate-friendly electricity generated here equates to the supply for 58,000 households. Konigshovener Hohe Wind Farm is a joint project between Bedburg Town Council and RWE. The town holds a 49 percent stake.
