OREANDA-NEWS. Share of services in structure of the GDP of Uzbekistan rose from 53% to 54%, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said at the session of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan on 16 January.

He said that the volume of rendered market services rose by 15.7% in 2014 and their share in GDP grew from 53% to 54%. Over 50% people, employed in economy, work in this sector. About one third of created jobs annually fall to share of the sector, he said.

He said that the structure of rendered services is changing. High technological services such as mobile communication, internet, cable TV, long-distance banking services and others are becoming popular, he noted.

He said that share of traditional domestic and communal services fell from 16% to 9.5% in recent years, while share of high technological service grew up to 21.2%. President said communication and information services are developing rapidly. The growth rate of the sector made up 3.3 times in last five years and 24.5% in 2014. He said that Uzbekistan laid over 2,000 km of optic fibre lines in 2014, including in remote areas as Kungrad, Baisun, Uzun, Muynak.

Uzbek leader said that due to launch of over 500 new base stations of mobile communication, number of subscribers of modern high technologic communication system reached almost 20 million people, while the volume of rendered services to them grew almost by 26%.

President Islam Karimov said that number of internet users is increasing each year. Currently, over 10.2 million people use internet in Uzbekistan or one third of population, he added.

He underlined that the capacity of Internet rose four times, while speed rose 1.5 times. The cost of Internet fell 11.6% in 2014, Karimov said.

However, he said that development of service sector is low in rural areas and such services as communication, banking-financial and communal services could be developed in the rural areas.
