OREANDA-NEWS. Sydney Airport is set to welcome a new airline and a new route when Solomon Airlines launches its Sydney-Honiara service in June.

The new service is expected to commence on 2 June, subject to government approval.

"We're thrilled to welcome Solomon Airlines to Sydney later this year," Sydney Airport managing director and chief executive officer Kerrie Mather said.

"This new direct service is great news for Australian business and leisure travellers," Ms Mather said.

"Its winter launch is well timed for Sydneysiders looking for a tropical getaway to the Solomon Islands."

Solomon Airlines will operate an Airbus A320 on the new service, which will launch with an introductory return airfare of USD 599 on sale until 28 February 2015.

The airline currently operates international services from Honiara to Brisbane, Fiji and Vanuatu, as well as an extensive domestic network around the Solomon Islands.
