OREANDA-NEWS. Naftogaz headquarters has hosted a seminar on the development of biogas production in Ukraine. The seminar, on February 17, was attended by representatives of Ukraine's gas transmission system operator Ukrtransgaz, the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry, Ministry of Agrarian Policy, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, National Electricity Regulatory Commission, research institutions and private companies.

During the seminar representatives of Fachverband Biogas e.V., Biogas-Ost, E.ON and other leading companies discussed the successful development of biogas production in Germany. The country today produces about 2 billion cubic meters (bcm) of biogas each year and plans to bring its production to 10 bcm by 2030. This level of production would satisfy 10% of Germany's total domestic consumption.

Ukraine today is able to produce an estimated 6.3 bcm of biogas and biomethane each year. Naftogaz welcomes increased production of alternative gas in Ukraine and supports open access for biogas producers to Ukraine's gas transport system.
