State traveling to the Philippines in late February, French President Francois Hollande paid tribute to the work of French industrialists, among them Total, in order to provide necessary assistance to Typhoon Haiyan victims in November 2013. This terrible disaster left more than 6,000 dead, many more injured and caused enormous material damage.

"French companies have managed to unite in the France-Philippines United Action (FPUA) to provide private assistance needed for the country", reminded the French president. Total's subsidiary in the Philippines, Total Philippines Corp, is a founding member of FPUA and so actively involved in the reconstruction. The director of the subsidiary of Total, Dilip Vaswani, chairs the consortium.

Right after the typhoon, the Group and the French Red Cross implemented first aid and longer-term projects: distribution of non-food kits, sending teams to deploy access to clean water. Followed by "post-emergency" reconstruction activities, such as community preparedness, disaster prevention and rehabilitation of buildings and shelters for people.

Today, Total continues to help. In August, the Group has donated more than 10,000 solar lamps Awango by Total, which are distributed to the people by the Philippine Red Cross.
