OREANDA-NEWS. Canada's main stock index opened slightly higher on Wednesday after a slump in the previous session, with oil and gas stocks bouncing back in line with a recovery in the price of crude.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index was up 15.88 points, or 0.11 percent, at 14,657.64 shortly after the open.

It hit a five-week low on Tuesday.
