OREANDA-NEWS. Pure Gym, the UK's leading gym operator and a pioneer of 'affordable quality' in fitness centres,  today announced its annual results for 2014, a year in which both turnover and profitability increased substantially as the business continued its rapid expansion.

Peter Roberts, Pure Gym's Executive Chairman, said: "In 2014 we delivered impressive financial performance whilst managing significant expansion. In just five years Pure Gym has established itself as the leading gym operator in the UK and made gym membership a reality for hundreds of thousands of people. We have further exciting expansion plans for 2015 and look forward to another year of growth."

Underlying profits rose to £22.6m last year, compared with £14.3m in 2013, on revenues that increased almost 50 per cent to £68.6m.

The company also took the opportunity in 2014 to improve its website platform and back office capability, critical enablers of the ongoing expansion and customer centric offering that has proven so popular. Members can expect a continuation of the affordable monthly fee and further development of the web, mobile and app platforms which allow members to sign up and manage their membership and fitness activities in a time efficient manner.

The company has continued its momentum into 2015, recently becoming the largest gym company in the UK with member numbers exceeding 500,000 for the first time in March as people right across the country took advantage of the 'affordable quality' offered by Pure Gym.

Humphrey Cobbold, Pure Gym's Chief Executive, who joined the company in January, said: "The time I've spent getting to know the company since joining in January has reaffirmed my view that this is a very high quality business with great people and tremendous opportunities."

Cobbold, who is the former CEO of Wiggle, the world's largest online cycle retailer, added: "We will not be satisfied simply with gym market leadership. As well as planning to open 30-40 new sites this year, we are exploring additional opportunities which fit with our brand and capability. It's an exciting time as we look to drive a significant revolution in the market for access to fitness facilities, more active lifestyles and the well being of the British people."
