OREANDA-NEWS. Following the results of an investigation into the July 5, 2014 incident at Barcelona Airport UTair conferred letters of appreciation and memorable gifts to captain Nikolay Limarev and second pilot Kirill Kuzmin, the aircrew of UTair flight 5187 flying from Domodedovo International Airport in Moscow to Barcelona, Spain.

On July 5, 2014 the captain of a UTair Boeing 767-300 aircraft performing a final approach at the Barcelona Airport noticed that the runway was blocked by another aircraft crossing the runway. The aircrew made a quick decision to perform a go-around. The maneuver was performed successfully and later the aircraft landed safely without incident.

Under the circumstances the UTair aircrew made a timely and accurate assessment of the situation without losing composure and demonstrated a high level of professional skill.

On November 5, 2014 the Spanish Aviation Safety and Security Agency completed its investigation of this incident and on January 14, 2015 the results were sent to UTair.

“The professional qualities of our pilots deserve the widest possible recognition on the international level,” said UTair Deputy General Director and Director for Flight Operations Alexander Stefanyuk. “The talent and skill of our pilots remain a key element in resolving the most difficult aviation situations both in the air and on the runway, securing the highest level of flight safety and comfort for UTair passengers.”
