OREANDA-NEWS. Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici met Lithuanian and Swedish Foreign Ministers Linas Linkevičius and, respectively, Margot Wallstrom on 4 May. The officials addressed the implementation of the Moldova-European Union Association Agreement, preparations for the Riga Summit, as well as the deepening of cooperation in different areas.

Gaburici described the presence of two officials in Chisinau as a reconfirmation of the support of governments of the two states for Moldova’s European path. „We thank you for the constant support of Sweden and Lithuania provided to carry out the European reform agenda by Moldova and we praise the assistance provided to implement the Moldova-EU Association Agreement,” Chiril Gaburici said. 

Gaburici reconfirmed the Moldovan government’s firm position to continue reforms initiated in different sectors: justice and fight against corruption, financial and banking one. 

For their part, the European officials reiterated the support of Lithuania and Sweden to promote projects on Moldova’s modernisation.  

Thus, Linas Linkevičius spoke out for providing Moldova with a clear European prospect and maintain it in the list of priority states as to offer assistance by the Lithuanian government. 

Margot Wallstrom also highlighted the openness of the Moldovan government as to deepen the bilateral cooperation and maintain transparent and constructive political dialogue. Wallstrom also specified that Sweden was an important partner of Moldova and inclusively referred to those 16 projects financed by the Swedish government. 

The European officials said that the Riga Summit, due on 21-22 May 2015, would foster the support provided to countries interested in deepening ties with the European Union. The two officials pay a joint visit to Moldova on 4-5 May.
