OREANDA-NEWS. SSE Enterprise Energy solutions is in the running for two prestigious industry awards this week.

The Energy Solutions business is among the finalists of the Building Controls Industry Association (BCIA) Awards 2015.

Energy Solutions is also the only entrant to be nominated twice in the same category. The projects it has worked on with Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and West Yorkshire Police are both in the running for the award titled Technical Innovation of the Year – Projects.

The business provided building energy management system (BEMS) for West Yorkshire Police across three new sites as the force modernised its headquarters and training facilities. The project was focused primarily on achieving lower operational costs for the force and long-term benefits include a flexible system that allows the user to balance the need for energy saving against occupant comfort. The business also provided a similar system for Northumbria Healthcare’s new specialist emergency care hospital in Cramlington, Northumberland, which is due to open in June this year.

Energy Solutions is also in the frame for the BCIA Energy Management Award for its work with Glasgow City Council. The IT solution provided for Scotland’s largest local authority resulted in savings of 1,300 tons of CO2, 2.45 GWh of energy and ?231,000 in energy costs at 29 high schools between April 2014 and January 2015. The project has now been rolled out across more than 200 pre-12 schools as Glasgow City Council aims to meet a CO2 reduction target of 30% by 2020.

Now into its 8th year, the BCIA Awards is the highlight of the building controls calendar, bringing together nearly four hundred engineers, manufactures, suppliers and distributors. This year’s awards event takes place at the Chesford Grange Hotel in Kenilworth, on Thursday 14th May 2015, and will be hosted by BBC World News presenter and journalist Babita Sharma.
