OREANDA-NEWS. The Ukrainian Government has allotted UAH 1.9 billion for subventions to provide travel privilege in public transport. Local authorities should ensure the appropriate use of funds and travel privilege in public transport, said Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk at a Government meeting on Wednesday, May 20.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk emphasized that pensioners, the disabled and other special categories of citizens are entitled to free travel in public transport.

He recalled that this year the Ukrainian Government had allocated for subsidies to assign travel privilege for citizens in all the territories "an amount, which is equal with last year’s - and it is 1.9 billion hryvnias".

Arseniy Yatsenyuk accentuated the Ministry of Finance had funded grants: "The funds are forwarded to the regions, and I ask the regions to ensure the use of funds and travel privilege".

The Prime Minister noted that the Regulation of the Cabinet of Ministers doesn’t envisage privilege for senior citizens in the metro of Kyiv, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk: "According to the law, it is the competence of local authorities".

Arseniy Yatsenyuk appealed to the local authorities of these cities to make appropriate decisions.
