A divisional competition of professional skills based on the WorldSkills methodology took place at NPO Satur
OREANDA-NEWS. A competition of professional skills within the Commercial Engines Division of United Engine Corporation took place at NPO Saturn on 14-15 May 2015. For the sixth time, the NPO Saturn Training Center played host to a contest between professional operators; for the second time the competition was administered at the division’s level and, for the first time, with the use of the WorldSkills methodology.
NPO Saturn got involved with the WorldSkills movement back in 2014. In 2014 on the premises of the company’s Training Center the students from the Rybinsk industrial and economic college were undergoing training to prepare themselves for participation in the Second National Championship “WorldSkills Russia” taking place in Kazan. The first regional championship of the Yaroslavl Region focused on the turning and milling competences was also hosted by the NPO Saturn Training Center. At the first “WorldSkills Hi-Tech” high-technology industry blue-collar occupation championship which took place in Yekaterinburg, the representative of NPO Saturn won the third place operating an NC turning machine. At four championships of different levels of significance, the staff of the NPO Saturn Training Center’s training and production sector were working as experts. In October 2015 Yekaterinburg will host a second “WorldSkills Hi-Tech” high-technology industry blue-collar occupation championship.
According to Svetlana Zhukova, head of the NPO Saturn Training Center: “The skills contest serves as a venue for exchanging the experience and enhancement of professional skills between the young blue-collar workers and those having already attained some practical knowledge of working in the same field. The event organizers hope that the young contest participants (under 25), the prize-winners of the competition, will subsequently take part in the national and international WorldSkills championships.”
Fifteen contestants, the delegates from NPO Saturn and the Perm Engine Plant competed in the two most in-demand blue-collar occupations (competences) – “The operator/setup engineer of NC turning machines” and “The operator/setup engineer of NC milling machines”.
Following the competition results, the best operators/setup engineers of NC turning machines are as follows:
1 place - Dmitriy Ivanov, a category 6 NC machine and manipulator setup engineer representing the NPO Saturn workshop complex 32;
2 place - Ivan Zorin, a category 5 NC machine operator representing the NPO Saturn pre-production plant’s workshop 711;
3 place - Alexander Popovichev, a category 4 NC machine operator representing the NPO Saturn workshop complex 12.
Following the competition results, the best operators/setup engineers of NC milling machines are as follows:
1 place - Dmitriy Beilin, a category 6 NC machine and manipulator setup engineer representing the NPO Saturn workshop 3;
2 place - Oleg Vinogradov, a category 6 NC machine and manipulator setup engineer representing the NPO Saturn workshop complex 32;
3 place - Alexander Bolshakov, a category 5 NC machine operator representing the NPO Saturn workshop complex 57.
A few words about the winners. Dmitriy Ivanov first graduated from the Rybinsk aviation vocational school, and then while already working at Saturn graduated from the P.A. Solovev Rybinsk State Aviation Technical University. He started his career with Saturn back in 2007 as an operator’s apprentice; at present Dmitriy is a category 6 NC machine and manipulator setup engineer. Dmitriy Beilin is a category 6 NC machine and manipulator setup engineer working at NPO Saturn; having a higher education diploma he has been working at NPO Saturn since 2006 and since then has brought up many trainees.
The experience of NPO Saturn in conducting skills competitions between machine tool operators including the ones under the WorldSkills format attracted the attention of Salut: the representatives of the Moscow-based company were present at the divisional competition in Rybinsk as observers.
A group of graduate students from several Rybinsk schools were also the event’s invited guests, the ones who will soon have to make a decision relevant to their future profession and their way in life.
